Why the Boston took over
The Boston is a closed-toe clog on the same cork-and-latex footbed Birkenstock has used since 1774. It became the everyday shoe of choice because it slips on in two seconds, works barefoot in summer and with a thick sock in winter, and looks intentional rather than lazy. In South Africa it fills the gap between a slide and a sneaker.
